Industrial Energy Systems Laboratory LENI

LENI is a center of excellence in teaching and research related to thermodynamics and to sustainable engineering of energy systems (thermal or electrochemical) and industrial processes.
In the Mechanical Engineering Section, LENI, headed by Prof. Daniel Favrat, is a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IGM) in the school of engineering "Sciences et Techniques de l'ingénieur" (STI) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology - Lausanne (EPFL).
LENI develop methods, tools and technologies for the Rational Use and Conversion of Energy in Industrial Energy Systems.
Paving the way towards the 2000 W society, LENI leads theoretical and experimental studies on energy conversion systems and equipment with an emphasis on decentralized cogeneration (including fuel cells), renewables (solar, biomass) and heat pumps.
LENI is active in research and teaching in three main sectors :
- Energy Integration and Sustainable Energy System Analysis
- Heat Pumps and Organic Rankine Cycles
- Engines, Fuel Cells and other Reactive Systems
LENI is an active partner in the Energy Center (CEN) and the Transportation Center (TRACE) of EPFL. LENI is also an active partner in the European Center and Laboratories on Energy Efficiency Research ( ECLEER ) a join laboratory on energy efficiency research together with EDF and Ecole des Mines de Paris.

LENI is a center of excellence in teaching and research related to thermodynamics and to sustainable engineering of energy systems (thermal or electrochemical) and industrial processes.
